Can you buy wholesale without a membership?

One of the most common questions from new business owners is whether you need a membership to buy wholesale. The short answer is: it depends on the supplier. Most major cash and carry depots require a membership card. But not every wholesaler works that way.

Why cash and carries use memberships

Major cash and carry chains use membership systems to verify that buyers are genuine trade customers. It also lets them track your spending, send targeted offers, and lock you into their ecosystem. You sign up with your business details, get a card, and show it every time you visit.

The process is not difficult, but it adds friction. You need proof of business registration, sometimes a utility bill, and in some cases you need to visit a specific depot to collect your card in person. If you are just starting a business, or if your nearest depot is 20 miles away, that is time and effort you could spend elsewhere.

Wholesalers that do not require membership

Smaller, independent wholesalers often skip the membership model entirely. At UK Wide Food Supplies, there is no membership card, no annual fee, and no sign-up needed to order. We are trade first, but the public are welcome too.

We work with convenience stores, takeaways, vending operators, cafes, and other businesses, as well as members of the public buying by the case. You do not need to fill in forms or collect a card. Our prices are shown online, so you can see what you will pay before you order.

How to order without a membership

There are two ways to order, and both end with collection from our depot in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent:

• Online: order in our shop, choose a collection slot, and pick up from Unit 4 Westmill St, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent ST1 3EL
• By message or phone: send your list on WhatsApp to 07352 427535 or call 01782 873547, and we will confirm availability and have it ready to collect

There is no card to carry, no minimum order, and no minimum commitment. Pay by card online, or pay on collection by cash, card, or bank transfer. You order when you need stock, not because a membership system expects you to.

What products are available

We stock the core product categories that shops and trade businesses need. Our soft drinks range covers major brands including Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Fanta, Vimto, and Dr Pepper, in 330ml cans (cases of 24), 500ml bottles, and larger bottles. Our energy drinks range includes Monster and Red Bull.

Our confectionery range includes Mars, Snickers, Twix, Bounty, and Maltesers, sold by the case.

Who can buy from us

Trade businesses and members of the public can both order. That includes:

• Convenience stores and off-licences
• Takeaways and chip shops
• Vending machine operators
• Cafes, restaurants, and pubs
• Market stall operators
• Event caterers
• Members of the public buying by the case

We are trade first. Public prices include VAT and are shown on our site, and approved trade customers can apply for a trade code to switch the site to trade prices ex VAT. Everything is sold by the case.
